July 31, 2009 - Best Doctors of Harnett County. HCM&DS is proud to announce that Dr. Barbara Bethea has been voted Best Doctor of Harnett County, and that Dr. Lakshman Rao was voted 2nd Best Doctor of Harnett County.

In a world challenged as never before with rising poverty and crumbling finances, suffering has become a universal outcome of both disease and poverty. No time is more apt than now for providers to rise to an occasion, desperate in need. This is a call that must not be denied. While health reforms are promised, sweeping improvements in the instant future will be an unrealistic concept.

Yet hope comes from confidence Americans have on their providers. A recent Gallup Poll released this week, found that nearly 73% Americans believe doctors will recommend the right thing for reforming the US Health care system. In our own backyard, the HIT Strategic Planning Task Force has submitted to the Governor the final draft of the strategic plan “for improving Health and Healthcare in North Carolina by Leveraging Federal Health IT Stimulus Funds."

Harnett Program Seeks to Promote Future Health Care Professionals

The Harnett County Medical and Dental Society (HCMDS) launched a new program on September 22, 2009, to encourage and reach out to young people who have an interest in medicine. Called the Student Excellence Award program, it will recognize and award high school students from major county schools each month. Selected students will be recognized at the monthly medical society meeting.  Questions about the program may be directed to HCMDS President Shuvendu Sen, MD, MS, at shuvendusen@hotmail.com.
